LIFE MEMBERSHIP:

Life membership in CASTO is the highest honor bestowed by the organization to an individual who has distinguished herself/himself as one dedicated to the cause of CASTO, the advancement of school transportation education, and safety for all.

Life Member selection shall be limited to not more than one (1) candidate per year.

Being a Life Member in CASTO is comparable to being inducted into a sport’s “Hall of Fame”.
One of whom shall be appointed Committee Chairperson by the State President)

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. At least ten (10) years of consecutive membership in CASTO.

  2. At least five (5) years of consecutive services as a state elected officer, or six (6) years of service as a state committee chairperson.

  3. Shall not be an active voting member of the State Board of Directors at the time of their nomination.

  4. Must have distinguished herself/himself as one dedicated to the cause of CASTO, the advancement of school transportation education, and safety for all.

  5. Must have provided leadership in activities that have a positive impact on CASTO and benefit all members of the school transportation community.

  6. Must have exhibited outstanding performance including business and professional ethics, characteristics, achievements, and contributions, on behalf of CASTO.

HONORARY-LIFE MEMBERSHIP:

Honorary-Life membership in CASTO is an honor bestowed by the organization to an individual who has distinguished herself/himself as one dedicated to the cause of CASTO, the advancement of school transportation education, and safety for all.

Honorary-Life Member selection shall be limited to not more than one (1) candidate per year.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. At least five (5) years of consecutive membership in CASTO.

  2. At least three (3) years of service as a chapter or state officer, or committee chairperson.

  3. Shall not hold an office at the CASTO chapter or state level at the time of their nomination.

  4. Must have distinguished herself/himself as one dedicated to the cause of CASTO, the advancement of school transportation education, and safety for all.

  5. Must have provided leadership in activities that have a positive impact on CASTO and benefit all members of the school transportation community.

  6. Must have exhibited outstanding performance including business and professional ethics, characteristics, achievements and contributions within the school business and/or transportation community.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP:

Honorary Membership in CASTO recognizes the contributions of an individual who has distinguished herself/himself as one dedicated to the advancement of school transportation education and safety for all.

Honorary member selection shall be limited to not more than one (1) candidate per year.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. May be a member or non-member of CASTO.

  2. Must have distinguished herself/himself as one dedicated to the advancement of school transportation education and safety for all.

  3. Must have provided leadership in activities that have a positive impact, and benefit all members of the school transportation community.

  4. Must have exhibited outstanding performance including business and professional ethics, characteristics, achievements and contributions within the educational and/or business community.

NOMINATING / SELECTION PROCEDURES:

Selection Committee:

The Life Member / Honorary-Life Member / Honorary Member Selection Committee shall consist of five (5) members appointed by the State President with the approval of the State Board of Directors.

  • Two Life Members, or one Life and one Honorary-Life Members

  • Two Chapter Presidents

  • One Official Member

    Nominations:

    Step One:

  • A nomination form for Life, Honorary Life, or Honorary Membership must be obtained from the State 2nd Vice President.

  • A nomination for Life, Honorary Life, or Honorary Membership may be initiated by any CASTO member.

    1. It must, first, be submitted to the Chapter in which the nominee resides.

    2. To qualify for consideration by the Selection Committee, the nominee must receive a 2/3 secret ballot vote from all ballots returned by members of the Chapter the nominee is a member of.

a. If the nominee is a member of more than one chapter, the chapter the nominee has primary residence in shall prevail.

  • Nomination forms must be signed by the nominee’s Chapter President and returned to the State 2nd Vice President not later than January 15.

  • All information listed on the nomination form must be completed or the candidate may be disqualified.

Step Two:

  • All nominations for Life, Honorary Life, and Honorary Membership approved for consideration by a Chapter and received by the State 2nd Vice President shall be transmitted by the 2nd Vice President to the Selection Committee Chairperson not later than February 1.

  • In the event the nominee doesn’t receive the required 2/3 secret ballot vote from members of the chapter the nominee is a member of, the member, or members, initiating the nomination can appeal to the Selection Committee.

    1. The Selection Committee shall hear all recommendations for/and or against approving the candidate.

    2. The Selection Committee must unanimously approve the nominee in order to over-turn the chapter vote.

  • To qualify for consideration by the State Board of Directors, the Selection Committee must unanimously approve the nominee for the requested Membership Award.

    1. In the event a unanimous decision is not reached the Selection Committee level, the State Executive Committee shall meet to hear all Selection Committee recommendations for and/or against approving the candidate.

    2. After hearing all testimony from members of the Selection Committee, the State Executive Committee will conduct a secret ballot vote.

a. The candidate must receive at least 75 percent of the vote of the State Executive Committee in order to move candidate consideration to the State Board of Directors Level.

Step Three:

  • The Selection Committee chairperson shall present all approved candidates for Life, Honorary Life, and/or Honorary Membership to the State Board of Directors prior to the annual conference.

  • A nominee must receive at least 75 percent of a secret ballot vote from the State Board of Directors who are eligible to vote in order to qualify for Life, Honorary Life, or Honorary Membership in CASTO.

  • The new recipient(s) of Life, Honorary Life, or Honorary Membership in CASTO should be recognized during the annual conference.
